The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent communication skills and attention to detail. The ability to work on their own initiative but within a team environment will be essential. The successful applicant will also be able to think quickly, work to tight deadlines and be confident in their political judgement. They must be passionate about building a country that works for the hard-working classes of modern Britain.

Key responsibilities:

  • Undertake research, on subjects including local, national and international issues.
  • Assist Office Manager with the MP’s diary, arranging meetings and writing letters.
  • Maintain and update the MP’s website, including writing blogs and updates on constituency and Parliamentary work.
  • Monitor Parliamentary business and media coverage that is of relevance to the MP’s interests.
  • Draft articles for publication.
  • Assist Office Manager to progress casework though liaison with local and national bodies and government agencies.
  • Liaise with constituents, other MPs’ offices, national bodies and members of the public.

Key skills:

  • Excellent communication skills; written and oral
  • Ability to synthesise large volumes of information quickly
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Knowledge of Parliament and UK politics
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Ability to work independently and to support a small team

It is desirable that candidates share the aims and values of the Conservative Party.

Previous Parliamentary experience is an advantage, but not essential.

Interviews will take place in Westminster. They will be held shortly after the closing date (to include a written test) and the successful candidate will start as soon as possible.
